What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is an individualized, science-backed approach to healthcare that looks beyond symptom management and instead seeks to uncover and address the root causes of illness. At Trinity Health & Wellness, we view the body as an interconnected system—where your genetics, environment, nutrition, stress levels, hormones, and lifestyle habits all work together to impact your overall health.

This holistic method means we don’t rush the process. We take the time to understand your story, dig into your labs, and uncover the “why” behind your symptoms. From there, we design personalized treatment plans that may include:

  • Nutritional and lifestyle strategies

  • Medical-grade supplementation

  • Hormone and peptide therapies

  • Stress management tools

  • Movement and sleep optimization

  • Advanced functional lab testing

The goal? Restoring function, reducing inflammation, rebalancing hormones, and helping you feel like yourself again—or maybe even better. Functional medicine empowers you to take charge of your health with expert support every step of the way.

We specialize in conditions that are often overlooked or mismanaged in conventional care, including:

  • Chronic fatigue, brain fog, and mood disorders (like anxiety, depression, ADHD)

  • Thyroid dysfunction and hormonal imbalances (PMS, PCOS, menopause, andropause)

  • Autoimmune conditions and inflammatory disorders

  • Gut issues (IBS, IBD, SIBO, leaky gut, food sensitivities)

  • Weight gain, insulin resistance, and metabolic health

  • Cardiovascular concerns, cholesterol issues, and nutrient deficiencies

Whether you’re already facing a chronic condition or just want to prevent one, our care is proactive, preventative, and designed to support long-term vitality.

Can You Be My Primary Care Provider?

While I’m board-certified in Family Practice and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care, my current practice is dedicated exclusively to functional and lifestyle medicine. I do not function as a conventional primary care provider for routine screenings or urgent care needs—but I do work closely with your existing providers to ensure your care is seamless and collaborative.

Many of our patients choose to keep a PCP for insurance-covered screenings like pap smears, mammograms, and colonoscopies, while partnering with us for root-cause, whole-body care. Think of me as your wellness strategist—your go-to for hormones, weight loss, gut health, chronic conditions, and optimizing every system in your body.

Please note: I do not accept insurance for visits, and I am not able to provide superbills or see patients enrolled in Medicare. However, we do accept HSA/FSA payments, and many of the labs we order may be billable to insurance if preferred.

Are Specialty Labs Required?

Functional labs aren’t just helpful—they’re often essential. We use advanced diagnostic testing to understand what’s really going on inside your body, beyond what standard labs can show.

We partner with trusted labs like Quest Diagnostics, Vibrant America, Cleveland Heart Lab, and others to provide in-depth insights into:

  • Hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, DHEA)

  • Thyroid health (TSH, Free T3/T4, antibodies, micronutrient cofactors)

  • Cardiometabolic risk (advanced cholesterol, insulin, blood sugar)

  • Nutrient status (vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, omega-3s, and more)

  • Gut health (stool testing, SIBO breath testing, food sensitivity panels)

  • Inflammation, detox pathways, immune markers, and heavy metals

Insurance-based labs are available in most cases, and self-pay patients can access deeply discounted cash pricing with curated panel options to keep costs clear and predictable.

Are Supplements Always Required?

Not always. Supplements are used strategically when we identify deficiencies, support healing pathways, or need targeted therapeutic support. But we don’t start by throwing a dozen bottles at you. We begin with lifestyle, food, mindset, and movement. When supplements are needed, we make sure they’re:

  • High-quality, pharmaceutical grade

  • Backed by clinical research

  • Tailored to your biochemistry and goals

We proudly partner with Ortho Molecular and other vetted brands that prioritize purity, potency, and results. You'll never be sold something you don’t need.
